The Vase & Pomegranate design is one of the 5 classic designs from East Turkestan. A profusion of vines, leafs and pomegranates ensue from a single vase, usually at the beginning end of the carpet but sometimes from both ends. This design may have origins in the Tree of Life motif well documented in Central Asian and Persian carpet design.
The Pomegranate is also a symbol of fertility, as in many sons and ancestors and good fortune in Central Asian lore, where the Uiguer tribes of Xinjiang originated from.
